Whenever I watch a music video where there’s a crowd, I’m always scanning the faces, looking for diversity. Seems like there’s quite a distinction between black people’s music and white people’s music. Do ya’ll think it has something to do with the way we dance?
I was listening to some 80s music on YouTube, saw this video, and thought: this is a perfect example of how white people dance. Like they ain’t got no rhythm. 🙂
I admit, I don’t like a lot of rap music. Is that because I’m white? I dunno. But I do know that I like me some awesome guitar riffs, like this:
My point? I like finding things that we all have in common, like music. But it seems like even with music, there are divisions. I was listening to a Night Ranger song and saw this comment:
Richard Breedlove (3 months ago)
Ahh…The good old days: I was 15, I wore a cool black Member’s Only Jacket with stone wash jeans and an Izod shirt, I sported a mullet parted in the middle, carried my Harley Davidson leather wallet on a chain in my back pocket, Ronald Reagan was President and didn’t take s##t from nobody, Miami Vice ruled the airwaves, David Lee Roth and Van Halen were the bomb, and Night Ranger’s Sister Christian was #1 on the charts! Damn I miss those days! Damn….(sobs)
Funny, I don’t miss those days at all. Do you? To me, Reagan will always be the president who refused to deal with the AIDS epidemic. He’ll always be the president who introduced trickle-down economics, a theory that doesn’t even make sense. Didn’t take shit from anyone? I don’t agree with that, but even if it was true, is that the measurement of a great president? Oh no, now I’m thinking about Trump… Dudes, it’s gonna be a long 4 years.
Trump will probably be a lot worse than Reagan. I miss being a kid in the 80’s. I like to reminisce sometimes.

Yeah, it was nice being a kid. Being young. Growing up sucks. 🙂

Well, as a grown-up, you do get to enjoy grown-up things, which can be fun. 🙂

Lol. I guess. No wonder my parents said not to grow up too fast.

Part of the joy in being a kid is not being afraid to discover new things. Seems like everything is new when you’re a kid. We can still do that. Sure we can. 🙂

Just tired of all of the adult responsibilities like paying bills. Lol.

Think of it this way: Taking care of your responsibilities gives you the time to be… irresponsible. And free. 😀

I was reading through the comments giggling to myself. My two oldest are 24 and 22 and they both say this being an adult thing sucks. Bwahahahaha…..I told them.

I left home when I was 16, so my life has sucked for a very long time. And being an adult, I suppose I have to take responsibility for my life sucking as much as it does. Yeah, being an adult really does suck. 😀

Oy! Yay, my kids have it pretty good. I try, but no body is perfect. My mom kicked me out 2 weeks before I turned 18 so yeah….kinda been being a grown up for a long time too! 😉

Well I don’t miss the 80’s. I don’t miss being a teenager. Being old kinda sucks, but being a teenager really sucked for me.
There’s some music out there we can agree on, I wonder if some we don’t agree on is more generational than racial? I’m not fond of most rap, but it really wasn’t out when I was growing up.
But I don’t like country music either, you can’t get more white than that!

Along with generational, it probably also has to do with where you live. Country music was big in Texas, but I never really got into it. Some of it was okay, like Garth Brooks, but it all sounds the same to me. Like rap and electronic music. I guess all rock songs sound the same to people who like rap or country. The music we love probably has more to do with the brain than with race.

Yes. It’s the dancing. Definitely the dancing.
And my deepest most sincerest condolences re The Trumpinator. Maybe you all could learn to dance in those 4 years … preparing for a Guardians of the Galaxy type dance off??? 🙂

Yes, most white people can’t dance, but I’m an exception. 🙂 And I’m not happy about you making me Google Trumpinator. I ended up on a white power YouTube channel, which made me very uncomfortable. 🙂

Really??? Well who would of known it was actually a thing?!! haha … my apologies 🙂
And I’m most pleased you are the exception 🙂 I was going to send lessons 🙂

Isn’t it funny how dudes with big butts are not as sexy as women with big butts? Must be a fertility thing. 🙂

I just keep telling myself it’s only four years.. and God be with us.. but yeah I remember the 80’s .. I have no rhythm at all and my whole family thought for sure I would end up married to a white guy but I didn’t.. I loved Journey, Air Supply, Rod steward and Kenny Roger.. I love groups too.. It just be nice to for us to just come together and expect our differences and just love each other..

Journey was the first band that I fell in love with. Journey, Van Halen, Boston. Of course, I still listen to their music. I’m sorry you don’t have any rhythm, but I think you may be underestimating your talents. Compared to a lot of white people, you probably have more rhythm in your little pinkie. Still, the most important thing is to listen to what we enjoy, regardless of any outside influences.
I think we can handle our differences in music, but I’m not sure we can handle our political differences. I’ve tried to find things in common with Trump supporters, but I’m having a really hard time finding anything.

All we can do is pray for Trump supporters.. they are full of hate and bigotry.. only God can get us through these next four years.. but we also must be prepared to stand up for injustice of any kind.. be blessed..

The ones who are full of hate and bigotry are the ones who call themselves Christians or Evangelicals. They say they believe in your god, so I’m not sure how this supernatural entity is going to help, because he’s obviously not helping the Christians.

Only simple-minded morons think that music has a colour. Most people limit themselves, from what I see.
I like music so much, that many mock my tastes…because my tastes go over the heads of the many – and I’m perfectly fine with that.
“There are two kinds of music: good and bad. There are no genres!”
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Does music have a color? I think it does. Well, some of it does. Pop music doesn’t have much of a color, but soul and R&B definitely have a black color. There’s both white and black rappers, but rap music seems as black to me as electronic music seems white. Country and western music seems mostly white to me. I can’t think of any C&W songs that talk about race or other issues affecting black communities. I wonder, does opera have a color?
Seems like most people like a little bit of everything, which makes sense since humans like variety. Sure, we have our favorites, but for other people to mock our tastes? That’s not nice (although I admit that sometimes I have thoughts about mocking C&W music).
To me, music is another language. Just like people have different accents, music is different depending on where you live and who you are. I’m thinking of the song by Helen Reddy, “I Am Woman.” I know a man couldn’t pull off that song — it’s all about female empowerment. Does that song have a color? Yes, it includes women of all colors. It’s a rainbow song. 🙂
