If you close your eyes, all you can see is darkness. But if you concentrate very hard, you may be able to picture a hand within the darkness.

That’s my hand, reaching out to you. Can you see it? Can you grab it?

Blah, please tell Prince that we miss him — as much as we miss you. Peace.

  1. Hugs, and light, & love…to you. And to anyone who needs a liitle.
I didn’t know Blah, but I have felt her loss ripple through the blogosphere. And I do know what it felt like when I lost someone to suicide. I support and work with the semi-colon project. And my oldest daughter borrowed a phrase from a move “Just 20 seconds of insane courage and I promise you something good will come of it.” & tattooed it down her leg with a semicolon “;nsane” to remember an author could have chosen to end the sentence there, but didn’t.
    Reach out. ❤💜💙💚💛💟💞

  2. Depression is such a debilitating disease that so many others can dismiss easily… unless they have been there. I’ve struggled with it and suicide for most of my adult/teen life. You are very kind to offer support to others suffering. It can feel so lonely 💕

    • I’m not sure I can help, but it seems like a lot of folks don’t like calling the Suicide Hotlines. And I’d guess that some people don’t like talking on the phone. I just thought an alternative might help.

You are very brave to admit your struggles with suicide. It was hard for me to do. But I don’t think that shame should be attached to depression or suicide. We’re not bad or weak people because we have these thoughts. We are strong for surviving them. 🙂

      • So very true about surviving them! Because in the moment, the rational is lost. In the midst of depression you may know taking a walk or picking up the phone would help, but all becomes distorted and feels impossible. Very painful to live through. Very painful to witness in others. Yet this suffering makes it possible for you to be able to reach out and help others 💕

        • I’m not sure I’ve ever suffered from depression, but I hope I’ve learned enough about this medical condition to help others. I certainly know what it feels like to run out of options for treatment. To lose hope that anything will get better. To believe that death is preferable to all this pain…

One day at a time? More like one moment at a time. 🙂

    • I hope you get a chance to listen to this cover for Katy Perry’s song, Rise. I can’t stop listening to it. The harmonies give me goosebumps. In fact, I think I like this version better than Katy’s. 🙂

  4. Suicidal thoughts vanished when I changed my location and circumstances.

Besides, nobody gave a crap when I was…so I saved myself.

Sometimes, that’s all one can do – rely on self, because nobody really cares as much as the self does.

That’s the blessing and the curse of being an empath…”nobody will care for or about you as much as you care for or about others.”

So the empath has to turn that care to themselves.

    • If you have a bad opinion of yourself, it would be hard to practice self-care. I happen to have a very high opinion of myself, so I take care of myself with lots and lots of chocolate. Because I deserve it. 🙂

      • Who said that I have a negative opinion of myself? OTHERS have negative opinions of me. That’s where the suicidal ideation came from.

Removing myself from the presence of negative people was the key.

I wouldn’t know the quality of chocolate sold at Wal-Mart…Moonstruck Chocolates are the best, next to the “infused” ones that I nibble on from time to time.

Diabetes runs in my family, so I do sweet things in moderation. That’s self-care for ya…

        • I wasn’t talking about you, just in general. Those who suffer from low self-esteem aren’t able to use their inner strength to overcome sadness and depression. They need help. And removing negative people from our lives isn’t as easy as it sounds — especially if you depend on these people for support.

A lot of diseases run in my family, including cancer, obesity, and addiction. But the only thing I have to be concerned about is managing the constant pain. To survive, I have to pamper myself. It’s part of my pain management program.

It’s funny how different we all are — when survival is on the line, we all choose different things to help us cope. To help us keep breathing, in and out, in and out. Some people choose alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex… the list is endless.

I feel sorry for those who don’t like or can’t eat chocolate — thank goodness for french fries. 🙂

    I love this post.
One of my goals in blogging is to be able to reach out to those who feel that they have no other options in life… that they have reached a dead end and there’s no going back.

Please DO NOT QUIT. Help is within reach.
Just stretch out your hand… open your eyes and your heart.

    Namaste!
