It’s been a couple of years since I had my hair cut — the expense has become more of a luxury than a necessity. But with my coupon for a free haircut at Sport Clips in my hand, I finally got rid of all my freaking hair.
It’s hard to take pictures of your own hair:
Let’s just say I looked (kinda) like this:
http://dangerousminds.net/comments/photos_of_victorian_women_and_their_long-ass_hair
And now my head is 10 pounds lighter. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for (a tip of $10), so it’s not the best haircut. I’m sitting here wondering if I’ve had a worse cut, but I can’t remember… I’m thinking, probably not. Not like I care. ๐
I was worried that I’d be sitting around with a bunch of men at Sport Clips, waiting to get my haircut while having to watch sports. Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait. While the young ladyย was getting rid of all my hair, I got to watch a young, blonde woman — wearing a black cocktail dress and displaying quite a bit of cleavage — talk about football with a couple of dudes in suits and ties. ESPN, what fun.
I asked the young woman cutting my hair, do you have to watch sports all day long? And can you watch women’s sports, like tennis? She’s like, yeah, sports all day, every day, and no women’s tennis. Guys don’t like women’s sports. I’m like, well, they’re missing out — have you seen Serena Williams swing a tennis racket?
I also asked her if she had seen the movie Concussion, which she had not, but we both agreed that with Will Smith as the lead, it was bound to be a great movie. And I assured her it was — great acting, along with an interesting story.
And now I have a funky haircut and my neck and back are itchy. But I don’t care, because I’m 10 pounds lighter. Nowย I can eat more desserts without really gaining a pound. ๐
I have a great deal of anxiety tied to getting my hairs cut. I’m not afraid my hair’ll get screwed up – it grows like a frickin weed, it’s the fear of small talk with the hairdresser. Girly women terrify me.

I was just reading an article about how introverts don’t like small talk. I don’t like it either, but it is necessary. What are you afraid of? That someone will find you boring? That you’ll say the wrong thing? Those things happen to me no matter how witty my conversation. It’s not like the girl who cut my hair or I will remember each other a week from now.
Still, I’ve always stayed with a hair stylist for a long time, rarely changing, so strangers cutting my hair is not fun. I was worried that she would be too rough and I’d have to tell her I suffer from constant headaches, which is really too much information to share with a stranger. But she was nice and gentle, so I didn’t have so say a word.
Girly women terrify you? I tend to feel a little sad about girly women — so much effort and expense, and for what? Men? Please. But I understand it’s probably more of a self-esteem thing for women, and there’s nothing wrong with feeling good about yourself (even if you have a funky haircut). ๐

Your post reminds me of how spoiled I was until age 21, when I moved away – my dad was a great hair stylist. When dad passed when I was 22, my uncle and the other business partner continued with their very successful salon.

If I was able to choose a profession for family members, I think I would pick dentist. ๐

That would be fantastic! Or, if we’re building our dream family, I think 1. mechanic; 2. dentist; 3. doctor or RN; 4. hair stylist. That’s everything, isn’t it?

If the mechanic will also take care of fixing things that break and killing bugs, than yeah, that’s everything. ๐

No, I didn’t have Rapunzel hair, but it felt like it. Took forever to blow dry. Had to use conditioner and hair spray. But not anymore. ๐

oh it feels so good when they wash ur hair….i could almost have an o…oh never mind lol you know lol.. i will shut up on that one for now…
I do not care for the girly girls…well I should not say all..just the ones that i have met in real life..with that said I do like to wear makeup once in awhile ok like maybe once a month lol or play with different looks but for the most part I go anywhere with out any on depending on how I feel and if I am having a lupus flare since people are rude and when you flare your face can be covered with a butterfly rash really red or it can be on your chest anywhere and I have got looks towards me like eww I hope I can not get that from you…lol and when I do wear it , it is pretty light I do not cake it on and then take it off and look like 2 different people lol..
I notice most girls will not have much to do with me and I have never gave them any reason not to like me the ones who you thought were friends turns out that you never were and that hurts… but for the most part i hang out with the guys working in olan shop I am not afriad to get myself dirty and most of them are and i want to learn whats going on and not talk gossip about someone else that may not be there that are suppt to be friends with and then when that person shows up they are all nice to her,,,,NO i do not play fucking games…either i hang with olan and dad or by myself than the drama..
Like you said it is about making yourself feel good so do what makes you feel good life is to damn short for shitters……
Oh btw I just seen a few days ago about the place you went to get that funky haircut of yours lol it was an ad for tv….

I guess there are guys who are full of drama, too; but mostly, girls seem to have cornered that market. And with drama comes stress. I don’t mind the stress of a good argument because that can be fun and interesting, too. But drama is more for young people, some of whom appear to thrive on it. Whatever. Takes all kinds. ๐

I so agree 100% with all that you said..say it again gurl…lol…
I have enough stress and that is another reason that if they spew bullshit and drama imma out and fast i have no time or desire for it…this is why or another reason i stay to myself here at dads home and only go our when needed and my health makes it really hard to get out but anyways my guy his friends come over and i will sit and smoke and talk to them they get my humor dirty at times haha and we laugh and have a good time for the most part but yes i have seen the men bring the drama as well too…sometimes they are worse than some girls i know lol..
Oh I love a good debate those are worth the stress lol.. I like to hear others opinion I will listen of course and hope they give me the same respect

We have had hairdressers in the family for…ah. ..eons. ..but when I was poorer, than I am now ๐ I decided to cut my own hair. ..how hard could it be I thought? I’ve witnessed it hundreds of times! Well, as it turns out, unless your completely ambidextrous (I’m partial lol), it’s pretty hard to get both sides even! And the more you cut off’ve one side to even up the other…The shorter it gets! Soooo, I ended up wearing a hat for 5 days until my brother had time to fix it…and fix it meant a number 2 on the sides and back and a funky number 4 Mohawk down the middle ๐๐๐๐
I hope you get used to your haircut ๐

When I was a teenager, I hated my cowlicks, so I decided to shave them off. You know, to make my hairline even. How hard could it be? ๐
Good thing I don’t mind wearing a hat when I’m out in public.

The last thing you do before they let you out of the Army is go to your First Sergeant and sign out of your unit. After that you’re a free man again. My First Sergeant made me get a haircut before he would let me sign out, just to be a dick. I couldn’t wait to let my freak flag fly by letting my hair grow long and vowed never to get a crew cut again. But now that I’m old, grey and going bald and the arrogance of youth is gone, my freak flag is little more than fuzz on a tennis ball (thanks for inspiring that analogy, Serena) and I kinda like the low maintenance so much I stopped shaving, too. Just go over the old bean with a trimmer once every couple of weeks to keep the weeds down.
So in honor of freak flags worn, shorn and forlorn, I dedicate this song to you ๐

I think men have a different relationship with their hair than women do. I mentioned to the girl that cut my hair that I wish I had the courage to go bald. She looked at me like I had a screw loose. ๐

Oh wow! For some reason I thought you had short hair. It looks straight too. My hair grows like crazy so I have it cut every month or so. I have bangs too. I had it cut like a bob. It’s short in the back and longer in the front.

I’ve had short hair for most of my life, and when it’s short, it’s pretty straight. I love bobs, but they’re too much work for my hair. Looks like you need to update your avatar. ๐
While she was cutting my hair, for a short time, it resembled a mullet. We laughed and talked about Billy Ray Cyrus. You’ll be happy to know that she doesn’t like Miley Cyrus, either. ๐

Yea one of these days I’ll update my avatar. Lol. Actually I’m not surprised she doesn’t like Miley Cyrus. I like the bob but now that it’s growing it’s becoming a pain. My hair’s wavy/curly. I get lazy straightening it. Usually I just dry it and put gel.
