Legalize Cannabis To Fight Synthetics

http://www.cannalawblog.com/

UK lawmakers recently unveiled a proposal to ban “any substance intended for human consumption that is capable of producing a psychoactive effect.” The Psychoactive Substances Bill of 2015 was introduced in response to the growing trend of synthetic or “legal high” drugs. It does exempt alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, food, and medical products, but includes all other substances that are “capable of producing a psychoactive effect.” …

Alcohol and cigarettes do an awful lot of damage, much more than any synthetic drugs, mostly because these drugs are legal and sanctioned by the government.  Of course, the government doesn’t make money from synthetics.  Not that synthetic drugs are a good thing, just pointing out the hypocrisy of the drug war.

2012-2013:  12.3 billion pounds

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/oct/29/raise-a-toast-alcohol-channel-4

“With more than a quarter of adults drinking to hazardous levels, alcohol is a major factor in half of all crime and more than 70% of violent crimes, and costs the NHS £2.7bn a year.”

I can confidently predict that the programme won’t mention that beer contributes £5.5bn in duty and VAT, with spending on alcohol contributing £14.6bn in total to UK tax revenues, which is not too shabby…
