Other patients on the trial had similar transformative experiences. When pain is caused by inflammation, like in autoimmune conditions, this treatment looks promising.  Something like this won’t help me, but I think it may help those who suffer from fibromyalgia. Unfortunately, I’m sure it’s expensive.  Still, it signifies hope, which is always a good thing.

  1. actually i have heard of a similar implant for bipolar and major depressive disorder–it’s not the vagal nerve, but another cranial nerve and the implant goes somewhere in your head. i have heard of a few trials where people got pretty much the same relief as ECT gives, except more refined than ECT. i don’t remember the other details tho, so…
