Bill to Close Loophole in Social Security Disability Trust Fund

By law, a person must be able to work to qualify for unemployment benefits, yet some people claiming unemployment benefits also request Social Security disability benefits. To claim SSDI benefits, a person must be unable to work because of a medical condition…

I received unemployment benefits before going on disability, so my first request was for unemployment, and then — “also” — for disability benefits.  But you can’t receive both at the same time — the Social Security administration wouldn’t allow it.  Maybe they’re talking about overlaps in payments that aren’t caught, or instances of fraud, but if there’s a loophole, I don’t know about it.

I’m beginning to think that politicians really enjoy wasting time… Maybe they’re even addicted to it.
